Slegoon by Spike Reid

What a crazy idea! “Slegoon“, at a first glance, it looks like a space ship, but actually it’s a snow sledge. It is a single person craft with foolproof protection wherein the riders slides down on a steep snow-covered slope. The Slegoon is the extreme invented by Spike Reid. He won the first prize in the UK IOM3 Design Innovation in Plastics competition.

Giant Cargo Ships to Sail Solar

Last month, China’s biggest shipping company COSCO signed a deal with Solar Sailor of Australia, to fit some of their cargo ships with gigantic rigid sails, each the size of a 747 jet’s wing. The aluminium sails, 30 metres long and covered with photovolatic panels, harness the wind to cut fuel costs by between 20 and 40 per cent, and use the sun to meet five per cent of a ship’s energy needs. A computer automatically angles the sails for maximum wind and solar efficiency, and if all goes to plan the sails will have recovered their initial cost within four years.  [via..]
