Natural Crystal Chair

Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka grew natural crystals to form a chair. Called Venus – Natural Crystal Chair, it will be shown at Second Nature, an exhibition designer is directing at 21_21 Design Sight in Tokyo later this month. The chair is “grown” in a tank as crystals form on a sponge-like substrate. The above image shows the process of making a prototype version of the chair in a smaller tank before he advanced to the full scale model. The pictures below show the making of a full-size chair.
