SpaceSaver - Sink + Washing Machine

Space becomes a luxury in modern days, especially in over crowded metros and cities. Romanian designer, Andrei Bojor has come up with an ideal solution for those people with limited space. Called SpaceSaver, it creates more free space in the bathroom by combining in one object the functionality of a bathroom sink and of a washing machine. SpaceSaver is “greener” as it saves not only space but also resources - fewer materials are needed to manufacture one object instead of two. [via]

The sink itself is slightly asymmetrical – the shape of the sink is slightly inclined towards the back-left corner. This feature allows the drainage whole to be placed slightly towards left – thus the plumbing installation (the drainage hose) is closer within the user’s reach, as this is the part that might require most frequent repairs / cleaning / replacement.

The lateral panels of the body are detachable for the same reason – facile access to the parts / plumbing. User friendliness is given by following ergonomics principles during the design process (eg. the slightly consoled sink on top of the washing machine prevents the user to bend-over while using the sink).

I wonder if the water the sink uses could also be reused? Perhaps filtered then used for washing? Just a thought but it is nice to see designers thinking of these things.
