Contrail - Biking Community Tool

Contrail created by Studio Gelardi, is a tool that attaches to your bike’s seat tube and leaves a colorful chalk line behind you as you ride. The goal is to encourage a new cycle of biking participation by allowing the biking community to leave a unique mark on the road and to reclaim this crucial shared space. It lets bikers take same route, and aslo reminds fellow cyclists where it’s safe to ride if more bicyclists using the Contrail. The Contrail was a finalist in Design 21’s Pedal To The Medal competition and is not in yet in production.  [via..]

Greening Up the Street Painted Lines

Those painted line dividers we see everywhere this days. But Korean designer Ji-Hye Koo has come up with an ecodesign that covers painted lines on the streets with Nature On A Tape - essentially a pre-potted strip of grass that’ll grow with no effort.

Tryvann Snowing Bustop Billboards

TBWA created these amazing billboards with a built-in simulated blizzard, promoting Tryvann Vinterpark which is a modern and highly equipped ski resort only 15 minutes from the center of Norway’s capital city, Oslo. A smart technical solution made it possible to create a mini snowstorm inside transparent billboards. Every time it snowed at Tryvann Winter Park, mini snowstorm was started and stopped by sending an SMS. Continue reading for the Video.

From Jeffrey: We have been designing around themes of urban life, DIY,  and sustainability. We worked exclusively with found objects creating something of value from objects that spend most of their life unused. This is our DPW ADK furniture. Born from a spontaneous need and evolved from a simple vision the department of public worth adirondack chair is true upcycling a modern and sustainable take on the classic adirondack chair, all that is needed is the rearranging of some nails. Night Day Backpack

In order to make ride on a bike more secure at night, Brooklyn-based designer and avid cyclist Vanessa Marie has a great idea her ‘Night Day Backpack‘. The concept behind the backpack was to create a chic look with (hidden) versatility. The flaps have magnets inside of them with 3M Scotchlite material on the underside. During the day the flaps are held in place magnetically and at night - before jumping on your bike - you flip them up to become super visible.   [via..]
